Why Would I Ever Charter a Private Jet for my Business?

Private jet charter for business isn't about luxury - it's about solving the commercial aviation reliability crisis that's costing smaller companies operating between secondary markets millions in lost productivity and delayed deals. This frank analysis reveals why pay-as-you-fly private aviation has become an essential business tool for agile companies.

"Why Would We Ever Charter a Private Jet For Our Business?"

I get this question a lot from CEOs who run solid companies. Usually, it comes right after I mention that we do on-demand aircraft charter, and they give me that look - you know the one - like I just suggested they buy a solid gold conference table. "Come on," they'll say, "we're not Goldman Sachs. Why would we charter a plane when Southwest gets us there for $300?" On its face, fair question. Here's the thing, though: Southwest doesn't actually get you there anymore. Not reliably, anyway.

The Reality Check Nobody Talks About

Remember last summer when that CrowdStrike update basically broke every computer on the planet? Yeah, that grounded about 1.7 million flights in 2024. And just this week United suffered thousands of cancellations due to a computer glitch. But even without global IT meltdowns, commercial aviation is having what my teenage nieces would call "a moment." On-time performance actually got worse last year—down to 78.1%—despite airlines spending billions on improvements. For business leaders trying to get between smaller “spoke” cities like Buffalo and Asheville, or Providence to Indianapolis, this isn't just inconvenient. It's becoming a legitimate business problem. I had a client recently tell me, "I spent more on hotels last year due to flight delays than I would have spent on business jet charter flights for the same trips." That's not an exaggeration—that's the new reality of commercial air travel.

The Spoke City Reality

Here's what really gets me: if you're running an agile company and pride yourself on rapid response times, and need to get from, say, Hartford to Buffalo for a 10am meeting, commercial aviation treats you like you've asked to fly to Mars. You're looking at:

  • A 6 AM departure (because that's when the first connection leaves!)
  • At least one connection, probably through Detroit (Ugh)
  • Best case scenario: arrive by 10:16am (better fly in the day before to make that meeting, then)
  • Return flight? Maybe Thursday. (If you're lucky)

Meanwhile, your competitor who opted for a private jet flight? They left Hartford at 8 AM, completed the meeting by lunch, and were back home for dinner - While you're eating at the airport Marriot during your overnight stay waiting for the first flight back to Hartford the next day. It's not about the money anymore. It's about the math.

The Time Multiplication Factor

I was talking to a CEO who runs a $75 million manufacturing company, and he put it perfectly: "My time is important. If I waste 15 hours on commercial travel drama, plus hotel, plus meals, plus the fact that I'm exhausted and make terrible decisions, when I could have done it in 5 hours with on-demand jet charters, - I've just lost my company way more in opportunity cost than the price of the charter flight.” This guy gets it. Corporate aviation solutions aren't just about comfort and luxury, they're about capacity, speed, and effeciencies. How much more could you actually accomplish when you're not spending half your week in airports?

The "Pay-As-You-Fly" Option

Now, fractional ownership is where companies used to go broke trying to look important. You're talking $500K to $2 million upfront, monthly management fees, and usage requirements. It's like buying a Ferrari when you need an Uber. The “On-Demand” option works more like that Uber model. You pay for what you use, when you use it. No monthly fees, no maintenance headaches, no trying to justify why the jet sits empty 80% of the time to your CFO. Your money stays with your business until you need a flight. One of my clients— who runs a regional banking operation—told me, "We probably only charter 4-5 times a year. That's less than we used to spend on commercial travel delays and the productivity we lost sitting in airports."

The Assurance You Need

Private Jets Charters for Business and Personal NeedsHere's the part that really sells it for smart executives: on-demand aviation isn't just about getting there faster. It's about getting there at all. When that ice storm shut down Chicago O'Hare for three days last winter, guess who was still making their meetings? Companies with access to a private aviation solution, that’s who.  And it’s not just all about business and the Benjamins, either. I had a client call me not long ago in a panic. He needed to get home to Providence for his daughter’s first dance recital, but he was stuck in Charlotte due to a line of severe weather impacting flights, and his inbound connecting plane hadn’t even landed yet.  In this instance, we responded with a private jet solution that was able to get in and out of Charlotte quickly and had him home in time for photos with his tiny dancer.

Private jet flights don't care if United is having a systems meltdown in Denver, or if there is a hurricane brewing on the east coast. With the ability to fly in and out of 10X more airports than the airlines, and with quicker, more agile reactions, flying aboard a private jet virtually gurantees you are there for the people who matters most.

The Retirement Bonus Round - Funny thing about successful executives: they don't suddenly develop patience for airline incompetence when they retire. If anything, they get less tolerant of wasting time. I've got several retired former CEOs who use our services now more than when they were working. Board meetings, family events, investment properties. "I spent 30 years letting airlines dictate my itinerary," one told me. "Now I travel on my own schedule." It makes sense when you think about it. You've got the resources, you value your time, and you're definitely not interested in sleeping in an airport hotel waiting for the first available connecting seat when you could be golfing with your friends in Marco.

The Competitive Edge You Didn't Know Existed

Here's what's happening that most people miss about using private jet travel for your business: while your competitors are still playing airport roulette, you're actually showing up. Consistently. On time. Ready to get to work. Private jet time savings aren’t just about efficiency anymore—it's about reliability in an frequently unreliable world. When the next inevitable commercial aviation crisis hits (and it will), you'll be the one flying to the next opportunity while everyone else is trying to get off the ground.

The Real Question

So when business leaders ask me why they'd ever charter an aircraft, I flip it around: "Can you afford not to?"

Because that's really what we're talking about here. Same-day business aviation capability isn't about impressing clients (though it doesn't hurt). It's about maintaining business continuity when commercial aviation fails, which is increasingly often. The companies figuring this out aren't the Fortune Whatevers - they already have their own jets and flight departments - it's the smart smaller operators out there who realize that access to a private jet charter flight is just another tool, like having good legal counsel or reliable IT support. You don't use it every day, but when you need it, you really need it.

And unlike legal bills or IT disasters, this one comes with the added bonus of being a pleasant experience.
