Teterboro Private Jet Charter

Most private jet charters from the New York area depart Teterboro Airport (TEB), 12 miles from Midtown Manhattan, with Westchester (HPN), Republic (FRG), and Morristown (MMU) as alternates. Charter flights from Teterboro start around $9,500 for a light jet, and most trips can be arranged with 24–72 hours' notice outside peak event periods.

Teterboro is the busiest dedicated business aviation airport in the United States, and for good reason: it sits closer to Manhattan than any commercial option, handles no airline traffic, and is served by four FBO operators competing on passenger experience. For most charter clients flying to or from New York City, TEB is the default answer — wheels-down to a car on the West Side Highway can take less time than clearing the terminal at a commercial airport.

That said, Teterboro is not always the right answer, and part of chartering well from New York is knowing when it isn't. The airport enforces a 100,000-pound weight limit that excludes the largest aircraft, observes a voluntary nighttime curfew, and its ramps saturate quickly during major events. Clients headed to Westchester, Fairfield County, or the East Side of Manhattan often save real ground time using White Plains instead, and Long Island departures are frequently better served from Republic. As a broker, we position each trip on the airport that serves the itinerary — not the one with the famous name.

Airports Serving the New York Area

Airport Drive to Midtown FBOs Customs Best For
Teterboro (TEB) 20–40 min Signature (East, West & South terminals), Atlantic Aviation, Jet Aviation, Meridian Yes, with prior arrangement Fastest Manhattan access; note 100,000 lb weight limit and voluntary 11 p.m.–6 a.m. curfew
Westchester County (HPN) 45–60 min Million Air, Signature Yes Westchester, Greenwich, and Fairfield County; strong TEB alternate for international arrivals
Republic (FRG) 60–75 min Atlantic Aviation, Modern Aviation — Long Island and Hamptons-bound travelers; typically lower ramp congestion than TEB
Morristown (MMU) 50–65 min Signature — New Jersey corporate traffic; reliable overflow option when TEB slots tighten

Seasonal & Event Demand

UN General Assembly (mid–late September) — The most operationally difficult week of the year at Teterboro. VIP movements bring temporary flight restrictions, ramp space sells out, and arrival slots compress. Book several weeks ahead or plan on HPN or MMU.

US Open & Fashion Week (late August–September) — Heavy inbound international and West Coast traffic layered on top of end-of-summer repositioning. Peak-period pricing applies; early booking protects both aircraft choice and FBO ramp space.

Holiday Florida migration (Thanksgiving through New Year's) — The TEB–South Florida corridor is the busiest charter lane in the country in this window. Southbound demand peaks the day before Thanksgiving and December 22–27; northbound return legs cluster around January 2–5, which is also when empty-leg value appears.

Art Basel Miami Beach (early December) — A concentrated three-day surge of TEB–Miami departures. Midsize and larger cabins sell out first.

Summer coastal season (Memorial Day–Labor Day) — Consistent weekend demand to Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and East Hampton. Friday afternoon and Sunday evening departures carry premiums; mid-week travel on the same lanes is meaningfully cheaper.

Local Knowledge

Build ground time into your planning realistically: the 12-mile trip from TEB to Midtown runs 20 minutes at 6 a.m. and can exceed an hour at Friday rush through the Lincoln Tunnel. For time-critical arrivals, a helicopter transfer from the FBO ramp to the West 30th Street or East 34th Street heliports turns that drive into a six-minute flight, and we can arrange the connection so the helicopter is turning as you deplane. In winter, TEB de-ices efficiently but queues form after regional storms — morning departures the day after a snowfall benefit from a 30–45 minute buffer. And if your schedule pushes past 11 p.m., remember the voluntary curfew: many operators will comply and reposition, so late-night departures are often better planned from HPN or MMU at the outset.
